Not only does staining your deck give a huge boost to its appearance, it also offers protection for your deck and will increase the wood’s life substantially.
At Deck Refresh we use only the highest quality oil-based stain available. Therefore, there will never be peeling – the deck will simply fade over time.
Deck cleaning involves power washing the wood surface with a commercial grade cleaner to remove any dirt, debris, mold and mildew. This part of the restoration process is vital and will prepare your deck to be stained.
If your deck has an old stain on it we will chemically strip it off if possible, otherwise it will need to be sanded.
Looking to get the best results from your deck? Sanding provides the highest quality look by removing imperfections in the wood and preparing a nice smooth surface for the stain.
A sanded deck will have a nicer appearance and will also absorb the stain more effectively. We recommend sanding for any deck that isn’t brand new.
It is important to replace any damaged or rotten boards on your deck to retain the integrity of the structure and prevent any potential safety concerns. We can replace a few rotten deck boards or the whole surface depending on the condition of the deck.
Is your deck old and severely weathered? Deck resurfacing may be a good option for you. This involes removing all of the top boards of a deck and replacing them with new ones. Your deck will look brand new!

The surface of your deck must be cleaned to remove dirt, mildew, algae, and existing stain. We will also apply a brightener treatment.
Sanding will take place directly prior to staining. For optimal results, we give almost every deck at least a light sanding. The main exception is new decks.
We will apply a semi-transparent, oil-based stain. The stain has a built-in sealer, protecting your deck from mould, mildew, sun damage, and rotting.
